Inspired by Illinois artist Sylvia Shaw Judson’s Bird Girl sculpture featured on the cover of John Berendt’s 1994 “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.” The sculpture has since become an iconic symbol of Savannah.

Florence Martus and her dog became something of a Savannah legend waving to ships at the Port of Savannah between 1887 and 1931 where her statue stands today. Some say she was waiting for her love that never returned.
